Marriage License Information

Marriage license applications are accepted in our office Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Applicants must apply in person.

Each applicant must provide one (1) of the following forms of photo ID in order to obtain a marriage license:
  • Armed Forces Identification Card
  • Driver's License Issued by Another State Within the U.S.
  • Georgia Issued Driver's License
  • Georgia Issued Identification Card
  • U.S. Passport
All forms of ID must be valid and not expired.

If you are unable to provide a valid photo ID as outlined above, you must provide two (2) of the following:
  • Armed Forces Discharge Papers Containing Your Full Name and Date of Birth
  • Baptismal Certificate
  • Certified U.S. Issued Birth Certificate
  • Court Record Containing Your Full Name and Date of Birth
  • Foreign Issued Birth Certificate With a Certified English Translation
  • Hospital Admission Card Containing Your Full Name and Date of Birth
  • INS Issued Alien Papers Containing Your Full Name and Date of Birth
  • INS Issued Citizenship Papers Containing Your Full Name and Date of Birth
  • INS Issued Immigration Papers Containing Your Full Name and Date of Birth
  • Selective Service Card Containing Your Full Name and Date of Birth
  • Sworn Affidavit Given by Applicant and Attested to by Two (2) People Averring to the Applicant's Identity and Date of Birth
Applicants can apply for a marriage license in any Probate Court in Georgia, provided at least one of the applicants is a resident of Georgia. If neither applicant is a resident of Georgia, the couple must apply in the county where the ceremony will be performed.

Applicants must be at least 18 years of age. If either applicant is 16 or 17 years of age, parental consent will be required to obtain a marriage license. No license can be issued to any person under the age of 16.

If either applicant had a previous marriage, documentation must be submitted at the time of applying, which indicates how the previous marriage was dissolved (final divorce decree/final judgment and decree, death certificate, etc.)

If the applicants have completed a six hour premarital education program, the cost of the license is $26. If the applicants have not completed a program, the cost of the license is $66.

Payments must be in the form of a credit card, money order or other certified funds and made payable to Oconee County Probate Court. No personal checks will be accepted!
