You may purchase tickets to tour the historic Eagle Tavern Museum at this location. Browse through the Welcome Center’s Gift Shop and pick up a Downtown Watkinsville Walking Tour Map to help guide your trip. Arrive at the Eagle Tavern Museum at 10:15 am. The Tavern, opened in 1801, served as a tavern and stage coach stop between Milledgeville and Athens for over 100 years and later served as a hotel. Guests can view artifacts and scenes from the 19th century way of life. Depart at 10:30 am. Shop and browse in the downtown shops from 10:30 am until 11:30 am. Arrive at the Oconee Cultural Arts Foundation (34 School Street) at 11:40 am. OCAF’s Cultural Arts Center, the 1902 OCAF Art Center, provides exhibition space for local artists and galleries of all aspects. The building was constructed in 1902 and served as a public school housing grades 1 through 11 until the mid-1950. Depart at 12:00 pm. Guests will enjoy lunch at one of the many fine restaurants located in downtown Watkinsville or throughout Oconee County. Pick up a list of Oconee County restaurants at the Welcome Center. Arrive at Ashford Manor Bed & Breakfast (5 Harden Hill Road, Watkinsville, GA) at 1:20 pm. Ashford Manor is a beautifully restored Victorian estate with pool and gardens. Depart at 1:45 pm. Arrive at the Chappelle Gallery (25 South Main Street, Watkinsville, GA) at 1:55 pm. The Chappelle Gallery is located in the historic Haygood House. Be sure to inquire about its history. Depart at 2:30 pm. Arrive at Elder Mill Covered Bridge (Elder Mill Road) at 2:40 pm. Elder Mill Covered Bridge was constructed circa 1897, and is one of twelve covered bridges in Georgia and the only one still supported solely by wooden beams. Enjoy the beauty of nearby Rose Creek. Depart at 3:00 pm. Arrive at Happy Valley Pottery (1210 Carson Graves Road, Watkinsville, GA) at 3:15 pm. On site demonstrations of arts and crafts may be seen at Happy Valley Pottery, which has been featured on HGTV and in Southern Living Magazine. Depart at 4:30 pm.
