Reclaims / Adoptions

Reclaims

Each day, Oconee County Animal Services responds to a number of calls regarding animals running at large. To ensure the safety of the public and of these animals, we pick up the animals and hold them at our shelter facility.

If your animal is lost, please call Animal Services first - we may have your animal at our facility. 706.769.3956

The cost of reclaiming an impounded animal will depend on whether the animal is sterilized/intact, a first offense or a repeat violator. If your animal is not current or you cannot provide proof of a current Rabies vaccination, you must go by a licensed veterinarian and purchase a pre-paid Rabies voucher. Prices differ from vet to vet.

Citations may be issued at the time of reclaim. The shelter accepts cash, check, or Visa, MasterCard, Discover, and debit cards. There is a 3% convenience fee when used.

Impound Fees

Impound fees are the charges incurred due to the animal being picked up, by Animal Services, or turned into the shelter by a Good Samaritan. You are required to pay impound, boarding, vaccinations/medical and any other fees incurred as a result of impound.

Fees are accrued starting with the first day.

Adoptions

Oconee County Animal Services adopts approximately 400 plus animals per year. We welcome both families, individuals, and groups to visit us and interact with the animals at our facility. If you wish to adopt, we can assist you in completing an adoption application. Normally, there is a 24-hour waiting period for all adoption applications.

The shelter encourages you to bring your rabies vaccinated pet to interact with the animal you are interested in adopting. This eliminates territorial dominance.
