Keep Oconee County Beautiful is sponsoring “Bring One for the Chipper 2021,” from December 25, 2020, through January 9, 2021, as part of a statewide effort to recycle Christmas trees. Trees can be dropped off at Home Depot on Epps Bridge Parkway or at Harris Shoals Park in Watkinsville. KOCBC will staff collection sites at both Harris Shoals Park and Home Depot at Epps on Saturday, January 9th from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. If you wish to place your tree in either location prior to January 9, please remove all decorations, lights, and stands and place in designated areas.
This annual event continues 30 years of tradition of actively participating in environmental education and stewardship by providing drop-off points in the community. The Christmas trees are recycled by chipping them into mulch for use in landscaping, or by using them as fish or animal habitats.
With 30 years of treecycling in Georgia, this is the largest event of its kind in the nation. Since 1991, over 6 million Christmas trees have been diverted from landfills and put to a greater use. Thank you very much for your awareness and cooperation in getting Christmas trees to a “mulch” better place.
